The two-form entry primary school will offer 462 places for learners and includes a 30-place nursery as well as a flexible special educational needs learning space.

A new teaching block which is partially heated by the only thermal hot spring in Wales

Kier was appointed to build a new teaching block and assembly hall within the grounds of the existing school in Taff’s Well, South Wales. The heating system runs from the ancient hot spring, which passes through a series of heat pumps which heat the new building and the existing Victorian block.

A multi-phase throughschool development in Cambridgeshire, hosting a nursery, two-form entry primary school, secondary school and 400-student sixth form.

The state-of-the-art learning centre is set to serve the local community by opening up new school spaces across the education system. The school represents a major milestone for Cambridgeshire County Council and the emerging town of Northstowe.

Working with Kier to deliver the world class educational facilities here at Northstowe has been an absolute pleasure. The professionalism of the teams has been first rate, as has their willingness to answer any questions or queries that we've had relating to the build.

A new £25m net zero carbon teaching block in South Wales
Procured through the SEWSCAPE framework

This all-through school is designed for net zero carbon operation, powered by on-site renewables like air source heat pumps, solar panels, and 100% renewable electricity.

Extension of existing school facilities to modernise the learning environment

Kier was appointed to upgrade and expand the facilities at the school, including the demolition of the existing main hall and kitchen, as well as the erection of a new central hall, kitchen, main entrance, administration block and a multi-use games area.

Delivery of new state-of-the-art educational facilities in an £11.4m project

Kier delivered the design and build of a new 2,262m2 extension and refurbishment, increasing pupil capacity from a three-stream to a four-stream entry. New facilities include nine new classrooms and an additional gym hall, as well as upgrades to the dining hall, kitchen and outdoor play areas.

The new Tiger Way school facility features a new multi-use games area, sports zone, and central outdoor play facility. Intelligent design choices ensured that the limited space available was maximised, through rooftop recreational areas, multi-storey teaching spaces as well as biophilic aspects.

Kier Design have performed well on Tiger Way. They provide an efficient service and always considering best value for the project and work within the programme constraints and react as required to any urgent needs of the project team. We would have no hesitation in using the Kier Design team on future projects.

The new building will include both primary and secondary SEND classrooms, with specialist facilities such as medical treatment rooms, therapy rooms, and sensory spaces.

A new 5,000 sqm facility to replace the former Grade-II listed Carew Academy building

The new development extends the provision for additional and complex learning needs in the area by offering 246 new places for students aged 7-18 years in the local area, offering a wide variety of learning spaces.

Inclusive Environments

At Kier, we apply our extensive knowledge and expertise to provide specialist educational facilities tailored to the specific needs of students. We have plenty of experience in SEND, ALN and ASN environments, both on-site in construction and off-site in leading classroom-based programmes.

We had a really positive experience working with Kier, right from the very beginning. It has enabled us to think about the little details that are really important in the context of building a special school. It was particularly helpful to have Kier based on-site.

An all through-school for children aged 3-19 with special educational needs and disabilities.

The new extension provides an additional 125 places for children and young people with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). This project is essential to increasing SEND places for the local community in St Neots, Cambridgeshire. Working on a live site, the team at Kier communicated effectively with school staff, pupils and parents to ensure minimal disruption was caused to learning.

Providing specialist facilities for pupils ages 3-18, the school has been designed to meet and achieve Passivhaus standards and once complete will be the largest such school in Scotland.

The new school building will offer a wide variety of learning spaces including classrooms, activity spaces, learning hubs, life skills rooms and a range of therapy provisions including rebound therapy and a hydro pool.

A specialist School for children with profound learning difficulties

Designed for 120 pupils, the school has a total floor space equivalent to around two football pitches, larger classrooms, extra hall and therapy provisions including rebound therapy, hydrotherapy, light and sensory facilities and soft play.

This vitally important project creates a space which prioritises pupils with additional learning needs, with open-plan spaces, intervention centres as well as breakout rooms for both pupils and staff members. Crucially, the project accommodates the increased demand for specialist provision Primary education facilities in the city of Cardiff.

Working with Kier has been an absolute joy. It has very much been a process of co-construction, learning from each other. We have been asked questions continually, and those questions have been answered and change has been made.

Construction careers explored with Hounslow SEND school

The delivery of our award winning ‘Kierriculum’ education programme, at Marjory Kinnon School, one of the largest SEND schools in the country. We worked with the Y11 students to explore careers in the construction industry, as part of our social value work in partnership with Heathrow and the London Borough of Hounslow, and delivered in conjunction with The Reach Foundation.

The programme transformed perceptions about construction careers for students with learning difficulties, giving them the opportunity to see themselves working on projects right on their doorstep and impacting their local community.

The redevelopment of Oak Academy in Bournemouth with a new campus design for the 900-place secondary school

The new school, designed through the kSchool platform is net zero carbon in operation. The new buildings provide a variety of learning spaces, including science and technology classrooms and improved facilities to cover sport, music, drama and SEND provision.

This innovative net zero carbon in operation project will combine improved facilities under one roof, making more efficient use of the site’s footprint and allow the school to increase its student and staff intake.

The first Passivhaus standard school to feature an underground basement - implemented to optimise the school footprint

This first-class educational facility is designed to maximise heat and energy conservation, with features such as enhanced insulation, air source heat pumps and south-facing design that improves air quality. The new energy efficient building offers bright classrooms with interactive screens, as well as considerable green space with extensive facilities for sports and leisure.

A brand new Sixth Form building at Cleeve School, complete with elevated study and leisure spaces

The design of the new building aims to support the Sixth Form college in its aim to provide a more mature space which ultimately bridges the gap between further education and higher education or employment. With fresh, collaborative spaces, the new building is accessible and inclusive to all students.

Kier were great and having that relationship with people really helped. We were confident that they could deliver what we really needed. It still creates that ‘wow factor’ when you come in.
