Utilising our 'live site working guide'
We ensure every project meets the daily needs of children and staff. Our 'Inclusive Environments' projects are often near or within existing facilities. We carefully organise construction to minimise stress, disturbance, and ensure safety for all.
As associate members of the Considerate Constructors Scheme, we utilise our ‘Live site working guide’ to minimise our impact whilst delivering the inspirational learning opportunity a construction project can provide to young people.
Kristian Cartwright, Project Director for Kier Construction, Western and Wales, has helped to develop our ‘live site working guide’ based on his experience of delivering SEMH and SEND schemes within live, operational environments.
Noise and VibrationWe know some building users can be highly sensitive to noise, so we carefully plan activities with this in mind, utilising alternative methods, sound screening, or out of hours works where necessary.
Understanding the varying needs of existing building users - how they access their site, traffic and pedestrian movements, daily timings and routes. We then plan our logistics to minimise impact on their routine and establish safe, segregated routes to and from their facilities.
CommunicateEstablish a stakeholder communication plan that sets out who we will liaise with, how we share information and when this will happen. Often existing facilities management prefer to deliver communications with pupils, parents and carers and we can help to support this, explaining how the construction works have been planned with the safety and comfort of adjacent building users in mind.
Safety and SecurityTo maintain the safety and security of existing building users, we develop carefully considered logistics to segregate our works, integrating our fire and emergency strategy with the facilities. Alarm protocols will be agreed as well as exit strategies in the event of an emergency.
